The New Zealand Franchise Associations 1999/2000 annual survey revealed the following:
- Growth in franchises is strong and continuing with approximately 100 new franchise systems having been started in New Zealand in the year to June 2000.
- It is estimated that the contribution to the economy of franchise businesses is currently 6 billion dollars plus. The number of people working in franchises is approximately 46,000.
- The average cost of purchasing a franchise business is approximately NZ$90,000.00.
- Two-thirds of franchise businesses operating in New Zealand have New Zealand based Franchisors.
- The number of Franchisees involved in disputes is approximately 1% of all franchisees.
- The number of Franchisors involved in disputes is approximately 25% of all Franchisors.
- Franchising continues to have strong growth in New Zealand with big business sectors beginning to embrace it eg. Colonial, Caltex and Fletcher Challenge.
